How to Make Money With Facebook Reels

Meta is investing big in Facebook Reels, the social media company’s TikTok-like short-form video feature. Eligible content creators can now embed ads in their Reels or take on monetized challenges to earn money, and viewers have the new option to tip their favourite artists on the app.

What are reels on Facebook?

Reels on Facebook are short-form videos. You can also view public reels from Instagram if the creator chooses to recommend it on Facebook. Reels are recommended based on what may be relevant to you and may appear in places such as Feed and Facebook Watch.

What are the differences between reels created on Facebook and reels created on Instagram?

Instagram names: Reels from Instagram have the creator's Instagram username instead of their Facebook name (if they have a Facebook account). You'll also see Instagram. next to their username.

Comments: When you're watching a reel that was created on Facebook, you can leave a comment. If you're watching a reel created on Instagram, you can only comment on it using the Instagram app or on Instagram.com using your Instagram account.
Likes: You can see how many people have liked a reel. You can also see who on Facebook has liked a reel, but if it's a reel created on Instagram, you can't see who on Instagram liked it. You can only see who liked the reel on Instagram in the Instagram app or on Instagram.com.

To see a list of who on Facebook liked the video, in the bottom right-hand corner, tap the number under.
Plays: If you're watching a reel created on Instagram, you can see the number of plays the reel has. A play is a video session with 1 ms or more of playback and excludes replays. Plays are counted from both Facebook and Instagram. If you watch a reel on both Facebook and Instagram, it'll be counted twice. Most reels created on Facebook will show the number of plays as well

If you’re completely new to them or don’t know what they are, here’s our complete guide to Facebook Reels that you can read next.
In this post, we’re covering all about Facebook Reels monetization.
But before we tell you how you can monetize your Facebook Reels, let’s start by quickly answering the question:

Takeaways
Facebook Reels monetization means allowing Facebook to place ads on your videos, and Facebook pays you for it in return.
There are two ways Facebook can display ads on your Reels: banner ads and sticker ads.
You must pass Facebook’s Partner Monetization Policies and live in an eligible country for in-stream ads first before you can start monetizing your Facebook Reels.
What Does Monetizing My Videos Mean?

Monetizing your videos means you are allowing Facebook to place ads on your videos, and in return, Facebook pays you for it.
If you’ve watched our YouTube videos for a while (or any YouTube videos in general)…
we’re sure you’ve seen monetized YouTube videos where there’s an ad in the middle of it.

It’s the same general concept…
except with Facebook Reels, instead of playing a video in the middle of your Reel like a YouTube video ad, it’s a static image and caption.

What Monetized Facebook Reels Look Like
So if you want to start with Facebook Reels monetization, you’re probably wondering what exactly do these monetized Reels look like?

How To Get Started With Facebook Reels Monetization

You have to be eligible.
Check out this Meta support page next because this will have all the information you need, but let’s walk through it briefly together.

You must pass and remain compliant with Facebook’s Partner Monetization Policies.
You must live in a country that is eligible for in-stream ads.
They have that list of countries as well as those policies hyperlinked there for you.

Also, “overlay ads may only be used in publicly shared Facebook Reels.”
Outside of those 3 things, Facebook says:

“Eligibility requirements for overlay ads on Facebook Reels are the same as eligibility requirements for in-stream ads on Facebook.”

Facebook Reels – The Basics

Facebook Reels are fun and inspiring short-form video content with trending music, audio, text overlay, AR effects, and more. You can create Reels from your mobile device and share them on your newsfeed. Either record a single clip or multiple clips in real-time or upload existing ones. Add a little spark to your Reels by combining the pre-recorded ones and real times clips.

Here you can upload a 60 seconds video showing your new skills, jumping into the trending challenges, showcasing your new product, or creating memories with your friends or family. The fun part, Reels can help you to get discovered by your target audience so that you can be part of all the cultural moments on Facebook.

Creator Page: When you're watching a reel created on Facebook, you can see other reels they've created by tapping on their name. If you're watching a reel created on Instagram, you'll be directed to their profile on Instagram instead.
